WELCOME!

If you're looking for a spiritual community in which you can be yourself, get to know others, use your brain, grow in faith, ask questions, help create the community you need, and help transform the world, this may be the church for you!

Our Purpose

With God's grace and love, we transform ourselves and the world through Jesus Christ. We welcome all who wish to join us in building supportive relationships with God and one another, strengthening faith, and working together to promote social justice and strive for peace.

Church Office Hours are Monday through Thursday, 9 am to 3 pm.

My Sister's Pantry Food bank is open the first and third Monday of each month at 5 pm, and the 4th Saturday at 10:30 am (there is no Saturday Pantry in November or December.)

New Here?

Welcome! It takes courage to show up somewhere new. Thanks for being brave!

If you're looking for a spiritual community in which you can be yourself, get to know others, use your brain, grow in faith, ask questions, help create the community you need, and find your way to help transform the world, this may be the church for you!

We strive to be an authentic and inclusive community. We seek to know the loving, mysterious God that Jesus knew, grow in love for our neighbors, and help transform the world with peace and justice. We honor everyone's unique experience and we think any spiritual journey that's worthwhile involves questions and doubts.

As United Methodists, we seek to understand the Bible in light of Christ’s law of love and grace above all. When we read the Bible, we take into account the long view of church tradition, personal experience, and reason (current scholarship and historical context). The Holy Spirit is still speaking.

We commit ourselves to welcome, respect, and love all who come among us.

What to expect

We welcome you to worship God with us on Sunday mornings at 9:30am!

First UMC is a "come as you are" kind of place. Dress to feel comfortable - there's no dress code and most people dress casually. You'll find all sorts of folks gathering here. Our congregation is made up of people from backgrounds and current circumstances that are varied in culture, ethnicity, economic status, religious and non-religious identification. We hope you'll jump in and make yourself at home.

We celebrate Holy Communion on the first Sunday of the month.

United Methodists practice open communion, which means that everyone who desires a relationship with God is welcome to the table.

CHILDREN WELCOME

Children are always welcome in worship. Silence and stillness are not expected! Children are encouraged to attend the 9:30 am service until the Passing of the Peace, about 10 minutes into the service, and then join the Sunday School teachers for Sunday School. Our Sunday School staff is experienced, caring and background-checked.

If your child prefers to stay with you, we welcome the joyful noise that brings as well.

3 PARKING OPTIONS

Street parking is available on Tacoma Avenue. There is no time limit for street parking on Sundays (there's a 90 minute limit Monday-Saturday). This is the most handicapped-accessible option, as it avoids the hills. Just keep the bus stop clear.

Visitor parking is available on Court E, around the back of the church. All spaces across the alley from the church are reserved for our tenants during the week, but are available for parking on Sundays.
